About the Jazz Band

The Plano West Jazz Ensemble has been selected as finalists in the 2017 Essentially Ellington contest in New York City! This is the biggest honor a high school jazz band can achieve. Over 1000 bands from across the United States and Canada submit recordings each year and the 15 best are selected as finalists to go to New York City in May and play in front of the likes of Wynton Marsalis and members of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. This is often referred to as the Super Bowl for high school jazz bands.
